Open 365 days a year
You don't need a gym to stay fit on vacation. With a few short bursts of exercise, you can maintain your fitness and energy levels so you don't start from scratch again in September. In this blog, Nigel Groeneveld, club manager at Happy Bodies Overveen, shows just how easy that is.
Why “doing something” always beats doing nothing
Your body certainly won't forget everything in two weeks, but it does get used to sitting still quickly. A little movement keeps the engine warm. The beauty of it is that the bar is set lower than you think: ten to fifteen minutes already counts. You don't have to choose between a full training schedule or doing nothing at all. Anything in between works.
How much is enough?
To maintain your baseline, twenty to thirty minutes of exercise a day is more than enough. Feel free to break that up. A morning walk, a swim, a short stroll around the block in the evening: added together, you’ll reach that in no time. If you really want to feel something in a short time, take a look at the blog about effective 20-minute workouts.
6 exercises without equipment
You can do this anywhere, without weights or equipment. Do two rounds and you're done.
Squats: Stand with your feet hip-width apart and lower yourself as if you were going to sit on a chair. Ten to fifteen times.
Escape passesStep forward and bend your knee, alternate. Ten per leg.
Print: on the floor, or against the edge of the bed or a table if that is more comfortable. As much as you can comfortably manage.
Plank: rest on your forearms and toes and keep your body straight. Twenty to thirty seconds.
Little bridge: Lie on your back, feet flat, and push your hips up. Fifteen times.
Calves: rise up on your toes and sink back down slowly. Twenty times.
Movement is everywhere
You don't even have to do exercises for it. Walk to the bakery instead of driving. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Go swimming in the sea or the pool. Take the bike for short rides. Walking is perhaps the easiest of them all, and surprisingly effective.
Practical tips for each holiday destination
At the campsite, you start the day with a walk and dive into the lake or pool during the day. In a hotel, you consistently take the stairs and do your morning exercises in your room. At the beach, you walk through the sand, which is harder and therefore more rewarding, and swim a bit in the sea. There is something to be found everywhere.
Back without delay
By staying active along the way, you maintain your foundation. Your first training session after the holidays will then feel like continuing, not starting over. That saves you exactly the hurdle where so many people stumble. Have a great holiday, and keep moving!.
You want to enjoy the summer, but you also don't want your results—the kilos you've lost and the energy you've built up—to disappear after just three weeks. Good news: the two go perfectly together. In this blog, Nigel Groeneveld, club manager at Happy Bodies Overveen, explains which simple habits keep you on track without turning your vacation into a strict diet camp.
Enjoyment and maintaining results go hand in hand.
Let's clear up this misunderstanding: one ice cream or a nice barbecue won't cost you your progress. Weeks of “oh well, I’ll just start over again in September” will. The difference lies not in perfection, but in balance. You don't have to do everything right; you just shouldn't let go of everything.
That is also how BenFit, the nutrition and lifestyle program we work with at Happy Bodies, views vacations. Not a break from a healthy life, but a lighter version of it. Just enough to maintain what you have built up, with plenty of room to enjoy yourself.
The mistakes you can easily avoid
Most people don't let go of just one habit on vacation, but everything at once. They take a third round at the breakfast buffet, drink away calories in glasses all day long, and switch into "all or nothing" mode. Anyone who leaves without any plan is back to square one upon returning home. That is a shame, because with a few simple fixed points, you effortlessly hold on to what you have built up.
5 habits that make a difference
Move a little every day. A walk after dinner, a refreshing dip, a bike ride to the market. It doesn't have to cost anything.
Eat enough protein. It keeps you feeling full longer and protects your muscles, even when you are training less. You can read more about this in the blog about beautiful muscles.
Drink enough water. In the heat, you need more fluids than you think, and thirst often feels suspiciously like hunger. You can read exactly what water does in the blog about drink water.
Hold on to one thing. For example, your trusted breakfast. One stable moment during the day provides stability, no matter how irregular the rest of the day is.
Schedule your first training session after the holidays right now. That way, you won't have to think about anything when you get home.
How BenFit helps you with this
With BenFit, you receive a personalized nutrition plan every week, including a shopping list that easily fits your family's meals. The recipes are simple and you can swap them with one another, so a summery salad instead of a hot meal is arranged in no time. Moreover, the program moves with you: after every measurement at the club, BenFit automatically adjusts to your current calorie needs and immediately aligns your nutrition plan accordingly. You can keep track of your progress via the app, even from your beach chair. This way, you stay mindful without it feeling like work.
A summer day looks like this
Breakfast with Greek yogurt, fresh fruit, and a handful of nuts. In the afternoon, a salad with chicken or tuna. As a snack, a piece of fruit or some unsalted nuts. In the evening, grilled vegetables with fish from the barbecue. Plenty of room left for a drink on a terrace, and yet a day that makes your body happy.
Balance, not perfection
Aim for “good enough” on most days. No one manages perfection every day anyway, and you don’t have to. That way, you’ll return from your vacation without falling behind, and without feeling like you were holding back the whole time. Enjoy it; you’ve earned it.
What separates people who exercise consistently for years from those who start over again only to give up within a few weeks? It's not willpower, motivation, or even time—it's the power of habit. By consciously incorporating exercise into your daily routine, you'll transform from an occasional gym-goer into an enthusiastic athlete. In this blog post, Rémon Koetje, lifestyle coach and trainer at Happy Bodies, explains how to make exercise a regular and enjoyable habit with simple steps.
The science behind habit formation
Habits shape more than 40% of our daily actions. They are powerful mechanisms that help us perform tasks without mental effort. Think of brushing your teeth – you barely think about it.
Forming a new habit follows a set pattern: trigger, routine, reward. The trigger initiates the behavior, like seeing your gym bag. The routine is the activity itself. The reward is what you experience afterward, such as a feeling of accomplishment.
The magic lies in consistency. If you repeat this cycle often enough, exercising becomes as natural as brushing your teeth.
Make the threshold as low as possible
A common mistake when developing exercise habits is starting out too ambitiously. You set a goal of training five times a week for an hour and a half, stick with it for two weeks, and then give up.
It's best to lower the entry threshold. Start with short sessions that you can easily fit into your schedule. Choose training times that realistically fit your schedule. And choose a location that's easy to reach.
At Happy Bodies, we've responded to this with our Milon circle, which allows you to complete a complete workout in just 35 minutes. Twice every ten days is enough for tangible results. Thanks to your personal chip, the Milon system automatically tracks all your progress, so you can see exactly what progress you're making. A great example of how technology can motivate you to persevere and significantly lower the barrier to entry.
Create positive associations with the Happy Bodies concept
Your brain is sensitive to associations. If exercising consistently feels like an annoying obligation, your brain will avoid it. That's why at Happy Bodies, we consciously create a positive environment:
- Make it social: enjoy a chat at our cozy coffee table after your workout
- Make it personal: our coaches know you by name and track your progress
- Make it measurable: the Milon Me app shows your performance and progress
- Make it rewarding: celebrate milestones in your sports journey
In our homey, warm atmosphere, free from intimidating mirrors and pounding music, you'll immediately feel at ease. It's precisely this combination of personal attention and high-tech support that makes developing a fitness habit at Happy Bodies so effective.
Become the best version of yourself
A powerful motivator for developing exercise habits is visualizing the best version of yourself. This isn't just about physical changes, but also about who you want to be as a person.
What would it feel like to be someone who goes to the gym whistling? How would your self-image change if you were known as someone who prioritizes health and vitality?
By identifying with your athletic ideal – “I am someone who exercises regularly” instead of “I try to exercise more” – you set in motion a powerful psychological mechanism.
Follow these steps for your athletic transformation
Ready to make exercise a regular habit? Follow these practical steps:
- Start small: plan two fixed moments every ten days
- Make it specific: determine exactly when, where and how you will train
- Remove obstacles: prepare your sports clothes, choose an easily accessible location
- Create triggers: place visual reminders like your gym bag by the front door
- Involve others: make arrangements with a training partner or coach
- Persevere: Stay consistent for at least 8 weeks

Tips & tricks about your health in your mailbox
The Netherlands has thousands of gyms, but only a few really stand out with a unique concept. Happy Bodies does, with an approach that focuses on personal guidance. In this blog, Lisanne Bijnen, club manager of Happy Bodies Schijndel and recently also co-owner, talks about her growing role within the sports organization and what makes the concept so special.
How a job fair started my career
My Happy Bodies adventure started after my Sports Science education at the HAN in Nijmegen. After three months of traveling through Australia and New Zealand, I was ready for a job in the health sector. From a young age, I have had the drive to help people with exercise and health.
At a job fair for alumni I got into conversation with someone from Happy Bodies. It sounded interesting right away: as a lifestyle coach I could combine different aspects that I liked. After a job interview at Happy Bodies Uden I was hired. That's where my journey began.
What appeals to me about the concept
At Happy Bodies, everything revolves around personal attention. With the Milon circle, every athlete has a personal wristband that automatically sets all devices. This way, you don't have to struggle with weights or settings and you always train at your level. As coaches, we can therefore fully focus on your technique and progress. Whether you want to lose weight, become stronger, improve your condition or have to take injuries into account - you get a program that perfectly matches your goal.
The efficiency also appeals to me. With 35 minutes of circuit training you offer a complete workout that everyone can fit into a busy life, Club manager Jorik also wrote a blog about this. But the most unique? The guidance. Nowadays you see more and more gyms that are open 24/7. That is at the expense of the guidance. With us, there is always a coach ready to motivate people, keep an eye on them and contact them if they have not been there for a while.
From coach to club manager
After a year and a half as a lifestyle coach, the opportunity arose to take on more responsibility. My employer at the time (now my partner) took over a branch in Schijndel and asked if I wanted to become a club manager there. I had already helped with schedules and administration and was ready for an extra challenge.
The timing wasn’t ideal – after two weeks we had to close due to corona. The club was at a tipping point: would we make it? But together with the team I got to work, we hired new staff and created a friendly atmosphere where everyone works hard.
A club where people feel at home
What I had in mind from the beginning: I wanted people to feel seen and at home. Looking back now, I think we've managed that pretty well. People don't just come for the sports, but also for the coffee table. After the sports, they socialize.
It started as a small club, but you see that everyone gets to know each other and the group grows. A member once told me: "I had a nice afternoon thanks to you. I got tickets for the theater through a fellow athlete." That is exactly the bond you do it for.
The step towards entrepreneurship
In December, another opportunity arose: the location in Uden, where I originally started, was put up for sale. Since I know Happy Bodies inside and out, they asked if I was interested. I had to think about it for a while – it was a completely different step. But I saw it as a great opportunity.
Since March 1st, I am officially the new owner of Happy Bodies Uden. My goal? To also create a fun club there with a nice team where fun and cooperation are central. I hope to make it a place where many members come to exercise with pleasure to work on their goals under supervision.
My wish for the future of Happy Bodies
Now that Happy Bodies is celebrating its tenth anniversary, I hope we can continue on this path. That the interests of the athlete remain paramount and that we can continue to grow to even more clubs. Not because the goal is to become very big, but because in this way we can help even more people with a healthy lifestyle. Because that is what drives me: really helping people.
The days are getting longer, the first crocuses are coloring the parks purple and yellow. Whether the sun is shining or not, spring invites you to go outside. To seek out the fresh air and to give your body and mind new energy. In this blog, Rémon Koetje, Lifestyle coach at Happy Bodies, shares why the combination of indoor and outdoor sports is so powerful for your mental health.
The secret is in the variety
Just as nature renews itself in the spring, your body asks for variation in movement. Structure and freedom. Routine and adventure. At Happy Bodies I see every day how effective targeted strength training is. But I also see how valuable it is to supplement this indoor training with movement in the open air. That combination provides a completely different energy experience. It not only makes you physically stronger, but also gives you more mental resilience.
This is how nature gives you peace of mind
You undoubtedly recognize the feeling: after a day of working on the computer, your head feels full. Your shoulders are tense. Your thoughts keep on grinding. That's when a walk in the park is worth its weight in gold. Nature has an almost magical effect on your brain. And that's no coincidence - research confirms how powerful the combination of movement and nature is for our well-being:
- The rhythm of your footsteps calms your thoughts
- The greenery around you measurably lowers your stress hormones
- The fresh air clears your mind
- Daylight improves you sleep-wake rhythm
- The sounds of nature lower your blood pressure
Turn your nature walk into a complete workout
A brisk walk is a great workout in itself. But want more? Here's how to turn your park into a natural gym. The possibilities are endless and you don't need any equipment. Pull yourself up on a sturdy branch. Do squats on a bench. Sprint from tree to tree. Or do push-ups against a wall. Add some jumps or walking lunges come on. The beauty? No one is watching you.
The power of balanced training
The most effective training routine combines the best of both worlds. The targeted strength and conditioning training indoors, supplemented with the invigorating effect of outdoor sports. At Happy Bodies I see how this balance helps people to become stronger not only physically, but also mentally. One strengthens the other.
Indoors you work on your strength and condition in a structured way. The Milon circle provides a complete workout in 35 minutes. Outdoors you add freedom and relaxation. This combination makes a big difference. Your body learns to adapt to different forms of movement, which benefits your overall fitness.
How to build a sustainable routine
It doesn’t have to take up mountains of time. Schedule two short strength training sessions of 35 minutes every ten days. Add at least two nature walks. Notice how the regularity makes you stronger. Feel how the variety gives you energy. For example, start with a walk during your lunch break – even fifteen minutes makes a difference.
Spring is the perfect time to start this new routine. Nature awakens, your energy is bubbling. Before you know it, your body itself is asking for movement.
Feeling down or stressed? You're not alone. According to the Trimbos Institute, about a quarter of adults between 18 and 75 in the Netherlands will experience depression at some point in their lives. This applies to about nine percent of adults annually. Women between 18 and 34 are particularly susceptible. In this blog post, Rémon Koetje, Lifestyle coach and trainer at Happy Bodies, explains how exercise and movement can help improve our mental well-being and boost our fight against stress and depression.
The challenge of starting to exercise
Taking the step to start exercising is a huge one, especially if you're struggling with mental health issues. The thought of a crowded gym full of sweaty people can be daunting even if you're feeling good, let alone when you're facing a mental challenge. It's therefore quite logical that people who feel mentally unhealthy or have experienced depression exercise significantly less often than those who feel mentally healthy (34-42 percent versus 53-56 percent).
The power of movement on our psyche
That's a shame, because it's proven that regular exercise not only improves our physical health but also significantly contributes to our mental well-being. Exercise reduces symptoms of depression and anxiety by releasing endorphins, which give us a natural sense of happiness. Research from the Sports and Exercise Knowledge Bank also shows that it can be an effective treatment for people with mild to moderate mental health issues, comparable to psychotherapy or medication. It leads to lasting improvements in how we feel and how we cope with stress. For example, one of our athletes shared in a previous blog post how she exercised her way out of burnout—slowly, step by step.
A supportive environment makes all the difference
Anyone who's not feeling their best mentally won't want to mingle with sweaty powerhouses and toned fitness babes. Fortunately, there's no need for that. At Happy Bodies, you can exercise in a small, comfortable setting. Here, everyone can work on their physical and mental health at their own pace and level, under the guidance of their own personal lifestyle coach. A breath of fresh air, especially if you have ailments—both mental and physical. For those who want a gentle start, our Milon Circle is also ideal. In just two 35-minute sessions every ten days, you can train your entire body, completely tailored to your personal needs and without the risk of overexertion.

Do you know that feeling? You know that exercise is important, but your agenda is overflowing. The kids have to go to school, to parties and to their sports club, there is work waiting, and then there is also cooking to be done. Exercise? You simply do not have time for that. And the longer you do not exercise, the harder it becomes to start. A vicious circle. In this blog, Rémon Koetje, Lifestyle coach and trainer at Happy Bodies, tells you how to break that circle.
Why Traditional Exercise Schedules Often Don't Work for Families
The classic advice is: exercise at least three times a week for an hour. Add travel time, changing and showering, and you'll lose two hours per session. It's logical that this is not feasible for many people with a family.
The science behind effective training
Good news: research shows that short, targeted workouts are just as effective as long workouts. The secret? The intensity and efficiency of your workout determines the results – not the duration.
An intense 35-minute workout will kick your metabolism into high gear for hours. This 'afterburn effect' ensures that your body continues to burn calories after your workout. In fact, short, intensive workouts activate your muscles optimally because you work more concentrated and have more energy to give it your all.
This is what happens when you exercise regularly
After your workout your body still tingles. It happiness hormone serotonin flows through your body. You notice it immediately: your head is clearer and you have energy for a game of hide and seek with the kids. You fall asleep more easily in the evening. Logical, because exercise helps you process stress hormones. You worry less and sleep more deeply. The next morning you wake up refreshed. Week after week you feel yourself getting stronger. Carrying the shopping bags suddenly becomes a lot easier. You have energy left at the end of the day. And you are not the only one who notices this difference – your family also benefits from your increased energy and positive mindset. The best effect? You self-confidence grows. Not only because your body gets stronger, but especially because you book small victories every week. You prove to yourself: I can do this.
The solution lies in the combination of smart technology and personal attention
Imagine this. You enter the gym and a coach greets you warmly. Instead of an overwhelming space full of machines, mirrors and shiny bodies, you see a coffee tableThe atmosphere is homely and relaxed.
Further on is the Milon Circle – a smart system of eight devices that fit together perfectly. This innovative circle automatically adjusts to your body and strength. No hassle with adjusting weights or remembering settings.
Your coach will personally guide you through each workout. In 35 minutes you will go through the circle and train your entire body. The equipment knows exactly what you can handle and gradually builds up. Do you have a sensitive knee or shoulder? The devices automatically adjust to prevent injuries.
The best part is: you are never alone. Your coach knows your goals, follows your progress and adjusts your schedule where necessary. This way you combine the best of both worlds: the efficiency of smart technology with the motivation and expertise of personal guidance.
How to Make Time for Yourself (Guilt-Free)
1. Plan your training as you would an important appointment.
2. Choose fixed times during the week.
3. Start small: twice every week and a half is enough
4. Train smart: choose efficient exercises that target multiple muscle groups at the same time
5. Find a location close to home or work
Research shows that almost 9 out of 10 Dutch people experience stress in their daily lives. In addition, more than half of them suffer from stress-related physical complaints, such as tense neck and shoulders, fatigue, and restlessness. These are quite impressive figures. In this blog post, Rémon Koetje, Lifestyle coach and trainer at Happy Bodies, explains how efficient workouts can help you tackle stress – literally.
Understand your stress and take control
Stress often stems from internal thoughts and stories we tell ourselves. The good news is that you can influence these stories, and therefore your stress level. The first thing you need to do is understand what stresses you out. This can range from work pressure to personal obligations. By gaining insight into your sources of stress, you can take targeted steps to address them. Make a list of your stressors and think of ways to cope with them. Sometimes, simply being aware of them is enough to gain a sense of control.
Make powerful commitments
An effective way to reduce stress is to make strong commitments. This means setting clear, achievable goals and committing to them. Start with small, realistic goals and gradually work your way up to larger commitments. This might mean, for example, scheduling a short workout every day, setting aside time for relaxation, or doing some breathing exercises. By sticking to these commitments, you create structure and reduce chaos in your life. This increases your chances of success and reduces stress.
The power of breathing techniques
Breathing techniques can make a huge difference in how you manage stress. Try taking a few minutes daily for deep breathing exercises. This helps calm your nervous system and organize your thoughts. Mindful breathing can improve your focus and reduce stress. Exercises like the 4-7-8 technique or conscious abdominal breathing are easy to do at home or in the office.
Efficient workouts for stress reduction
Exercise is one of the best ways to manage stress. Short, efficient workouts can help you release tension and completely refresh your mind. Consider the Milon Circle, for example, which provides a complete workout in just 35 minutes per session. This method is ideal for people with busy schedules and helps you become stronger both physically and mentally. The Milon Circle offers a safe, effective workout for all ages and fitness levels.
Find connection
Talk to friends, family, or colleagues about your stress and how you're feeling. It's important to seek that social support and stay connected with others. Sometimes just sharing your worries can make a big difference. Furthermore, social activities and exercising together can help lower your stress levels and improve your overall well-being. Social interaction creates a sense of connection and reduces feelings of isolation. We think about that at Happy Bodies too. Here, it's not every man for himself; there's interaction between the exercisers. As athlete Rianne already mentioned in her blog: "You don't have to meet your best friends here, but it's much more fun than at such a large, impersonal gym. The social aspect makes training much more fun and motivating." And that's exactly how it is!

We understand that it can be challenging to exercise consistently when you have a busy schedule. Whether you have a full workweek, a family to support, or perhaps both, it can sometimes seem impossible to find time for yourself and your health. Yet, it's important to find ways to keep moving. In this blog post, Rémon Koetje, Lifestyle Coach and Trainer at Happy Bodies, shares tips and strategies for exercising effectively, even when you're incredibly busy.
Schedule your workouts in your calendar and change your behavior
Just as you schedule appointments and meetings in your calendar, you should also schedule your workouts. Choose fixed times each week to exercise and stick to them. This helps you establish a routine and prevents you from skipping workouts. By treating exercise as a regular appointment, it becomes a priority instead of something you do when you happen to have time. This way, exercising becomes a habit.
Combine sports with other activities
You can also work very efficiently by combining exercise with other activities. Take the stairs instead of the elevator, cycle to work more often, or exercise while watching your favorite TV show. By incorporating exercise into your daily routine, you can stay more active without taking up much extra time. Small changes can have a big impact on your overall health.
Make use of technological tools
There are numerous apps and gadgets that can help you exercise efficiently. Fitness apps can guide you through short workouts and track your progress. Wearables like smartwatches can measure your activity and motivate you to reach your goals. These tools make it easier to monitor and improve your efforts, even if you can only spare a few minutes a day. At Happy Bodies, all exercisers have access to the Milon Me app, a personal app that tracks all your training data, including your muscle age.
Discover the efficiency of training at Happy Bodies

After a long day at your desk or in the workshop, your body can use some relaxation. Stretching is a great way to relax your muscles, improve your flexibility and reduce stress. In this blog, Rémon Koetje, Lifestyle coach and trainer at Happy Bodies, shares some simple stretching exercises that you can easily do after work. He also explains why it is so important to include them in your daily routine.
Why is stretching so important?
In our increasingly digital world, we often spend long hours sitting in front of the computer. This can lead to stiffness and discomfort. Stretching helps to relieve muscle tension that builds up throughout the day, especially if you sit a lot or do repetitive movements. It can also improve your posture and reduce your risk of injury. Plus, it’s a great way to mentally relax after a stressful day at work.
Full Body Stretching Routines
A full-body stretching routine that you can easily do after work starts with stretching each major muscle group. Perform each stretch for 20-30 seconds, making sure to stretch gently without forcing it. These simple exercises can help relieve tension and improve blood circulation, leaving you feeling refreshed and less stressed after a long day at work. Here’s a simple example:
1. Neck:
Stand or sit up straight and tilt your head towards your right shoulder, hold this position for a moment and feel the stretch along the left side of your neck. Repeat on the other side.
2. Shoulders:
Shrug your shoulders toward your ears, hold for a moment, then slowly roll them back and down.
3. Arms and wrists:
Extend one arm out in front of you, palm up, and use the other hand to gently pull the fingers down and toward your body, stretching the forearm. Switch arms and repeat.
4. Back:
Standing, place your hands on your lower back, push your hips forward and gently lean back to stretch your lower back.
5. Hips:
Sitting in a chair, place one ankle on the opposite thigh and lean forward gently, stretching your hips and lower body.
6. Legs:
Stand and bend forward towards your toes. Try to keep your legs straight and focus on stretching your hamstrings.
7. Ankles:
Standing, lift one foot and gently rotate your ankle in circles in one direction, then switch directions.
Focus on the back
Many people experience back pain after a day at work, especially those with sedentary jobs. Try exercises like the cat-cow stretch, an effective exercise for relieving back tension and promoting flexibility in the spine, ideal after sitting for long periods of time. Begin this exercise on your hands and knees on a comfortable mat. Make sure your knees are directly under your hips and your wrists are under your shoulders. Keep your back level and your head in a neutral position with your eyes focused on the floor. For cow pose, inhale deeply and let your belly sink toward the floor while simultaneously lifting your hips and chest toward the ceiling. Lift your head, look forward or slightly up, and relax your shoulders away from your ears. This pose helps to stretch the abdominal muscles and encourages a gentle arch in the spine. As you exhale, move into cat pose by pulling your abdominal muscles toward your spine and rounding your back toward the ceiling. Lower your head toward your chest and bring your chin toward your chest, which will stretch the back muscles and provide a gentle massage to the spine. Slowly alternate between cow and cat poses with each inhale and exhale. Repeat this cycle several times to thoroughly stretch and relax your back. This exercise not only promotes spinal health, but also promotes deeper breathing and relaxation.
Loosen legs and hips
Your legs and hips can feel stiff after sitting for hours. The hamstring stretch is ideal for addressing that stiffness. Not only does this exercise help stretch the muscles in the back of your thighs, it also improves blood circulation in your lower body. Begin the exercise by standing upright and stepping one foot forward. Keep your back leg straight and your front leg slightly bent at the knee. Inhale and as you exhale, bend forward from your hips over your front leg. Place your hands on your resting leg for support and keep your back straight to ensure an effective hamstring stretch. Make sure your hips remain pointed straight forward and you do not twist. Hold this position for 20 to 30 seconds and feel the stretch in the back of your thigh. Switch legs and repeat the stretch to work both sides equally. This stretch helps to increase flexibility in your hamstrings and can help improve posture and relieve lower back pain.
A quiet ending
End your stretching routine with a moment of rest. This could be a light meditation or just a few minutes of sitting quietly and breathing deeply. This helps your body and mind to fully relax and recover from the exertions of the day.
Five concept
At some Happy Bodies locations we offer the unique Five concept, which was specially developed for effective mobility training. Training with Five helps to bring your body back to its natural position and can correct muscle tension and imbalances. Ask about the possibilities within your Happy Bodies club.
